Specialist care provider, Exemplar Health Care, has started work on a £5.8m specialist care home refurbishment project in Knowsley, Merseyside.

Fernwood will be the operator’s seventh care home in the Liverpool region, and will specialise in supporting 28 adults living with dementia, acquired brain injuries, complex mental health needs, and physical disabilities.

The home, set across two units, is set to open at the end of this year and will be situated in Knowsley Lane, Liverpool.

North-East based contractor, Walter Thompson, has been appointed to develop the existing building on the site.

Each of the 28 bedrooms will have an en-suite wetroom and the building will feature spacious communal spaces, sensory and therapy rooms, and landscaped gardens.
