Land sale secures care home development

Confirmation of a recent land sale is paving the way for the future development of a new, 70-bedroom care home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Christie & Co has announced the sale of the site in Battlefield to Rotherwood Group for an undisclosed amount.

This follows the award of planning permission to specialist developer, Frontier Estates, for the construction of a new care facility on the 1.97-acre site.

The development, designed by architect, Broadway Malyan, will offer 100% single-room en-suite facilities as well as a café, salon, choice of living and day spaces, activity room, and a family room.

And it will be surrounded by landscaped, accessible gardens with a variety of functional spaces.

John Fennel, chief executive of Rotherwood Group, said: “We are excited to add to our portfolio in Shropshire as this site perfectly complements our existing care home, Roden Hall.

“This is all part of our longer-term commitment to broadening our impact and enriching the lives of the older generation.”

Sara Hartill, associate director for healthcare development and investment at Christie & Co, added: “A care home development site in this location is perfectly suited to the needs of future residents and will integrate well into the town as a vital community asset.”

Work on the scheme is expected to start next year.
